I wasn’t sure what to except from the Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal mask… I love an exfoliating treatment, but very few impress me. I want something strong enough to make a difference and give me an extra boost I wouldn’t otherwise be able to get from my skincare routine, but also to be formulated well enough to avoid stripping my skin completely.
This product combines chemical exfoliation (from glycolic and lactic acid), enzymatic exfoliation (from the fruit extracts) and physical exfoliation from the mineral spheres, it is also balanced with squalane, glycerin and hyaluronic acid.
On first try I was surprised that I could feel the tingle, I’ve used similar products for years now so tend not to ‘feel them working’ as often. I left it on for 10 minutes and rinsed away with a flannel and cold water.

My skin had an immediate boost of radiance, felt cleaner and smoother and my makeup applied better than it had the day before. I wouldn’t follow up with any other leave on exfoliants following this because it is really quite effective.
I’ve only used it three times now but I love the idea of this as a flash mask for three minutes when I need my skin to look it’s best, but a word of warning from someone who should know better… use this pre shaving and not post.
I guess, to summarise I was surprised by how much I liked this, and it’s pretty much the only physical/chemical-hybrid exfoliant I intend to reach for because they use spheres, which allow for physical exfoliation without causing micro- tears in the skin like most other ‘scrubs’ on the market.
Biossance is cruelty free (like all skincare sold in the UK). The brand is available at Selfridges stores and online, Cult Beauty, Sephora and Biossance.com.
