Makeup By Mario ‘Master Metallics’ is a 12 pan eyeshadow palette containing only shimmer shades, with a good mixture of warm, cool and neutral tones, this will work on all skintones.
It may seem slightly odd to keep both of his 12 pan palettes to one texture each (matte and shimmer) but there is good reason for it and it comes back to fusing together his artistry techniques for both makeup artists and beauty lovers alike.
In most kits, where possible we keep our mattes and shimmers separate – this is so when we are using one specific texture we can guarantee it hasn’t been impacted by any other textures. Even a speck of shimmer in a completely matte eye could ruin the look when it’s photographed, in the same way that a shimmer could be dulled by a matte eyeshadow. Between both the matte and shimmer palettes you have all bases covered- These are pro kit essentials made consumer friendly.

As expected, Mario’s eyeshadow formula is brilliant. These shimmers are beautifully smooth and creamy, they blend easily and have little to no fallout with good lasting power. I’ve only ever used them with his primer but even if they don’t adhere as well to any other primer (which they should… I mean it’s eyeshadow right?) don’t worry- you can wipe it away because Mario has *finally* answered the age old question of which step first, eyes or face? 😉
I have noticed the lighter shades are slightly less pigmented than the vibrant shades which I quite like because as Mario recommends it allows you to use them as highlighter too.
Overall I’d describe the formula as a strong medium-buildable pigment which is my preference. I want my eyeshadows with enough pigment to hold their own but have the option to build quickly too. As much as I don’t want a highly pigmented eyeshadow that is chalky and hard to blend I don’t want to be there for ages building either, this takes care of both issues I can build and blend with ease- win win!

If you are an avid follower of Mario you might see some shades that look similar to the collaboration he did with ABH- that was my favourite beauty collaboration of 2016 and I still have one of my palettes. I’m so glad there are similar shades because they are all colours I associate with his most iconic looks. I can see how he could easily work from both of his palettes for practically any style of makeup. It’s like a micro kit made chic.
How do I use it?
Every shade in the palette can be used wet or dry, with or without a primer. As a rule of thumb, I prefer to pack on shimmers with a flat eyeshadow brush and then blend out with something fluffier. (Think a Zoeva 234 and 227- the dream combo!) You can use your finger for maximum coverage and then blend with a brush, if preferred.
I’ve linked the mini masterclass Mario uploaded below too, in case you want to see the palette in action.
